Woodlike Ocean Helps to Create Healthy Oceans with Highly Sustainable Swimwear

About 640,000 tons of fishing gear end up in our oceans every year. Fishing lines are one of the most deadly contributors to marine life damage.

Every year they are responsible for trapping and killing millions of marine animals. Causing further damage by entangling live coral, smothering reefs, introducing parasites and other invasive species into reef environments. It takes centuries for fishing lines to become fully biodegradable. It also ends up in the seafood we eat. It is a very serious problem.

Woodlike’s Italian fabric uses 78% regenerated nylon comprised mainly from ghost fishing nets and other recycled post-consumer waste such as carpets. The fabric also UPF 50+ UV protection, is ultra resistant to chlorine and has higher shape retention compared with any mainstream swimwear fabric.

For every purchased piece bought, a direct donation goes to the Healthy Seas initiative. One of their main activities is to organize voluntary divers for the recovering of ghost fishing nets used within the ECONYL® yarn.
