1% for the Planet members: Re_Set Advisors, Illustration X, MOJU, Pelican Founders, and individual member Madelyn Postman make up our UK Steering Committee working to increase the growth and engagement of the 1% for the Planet network in the UK. One of the ways they do this is by hosting regular events that bring together both the 1% for the Planet community and those who are interested in learning about how they too can get involved in the movement. These often consist of speaking events featuring experts in a particular field or area of sustainability.
The first event was in-person at the Conduit in London where we heard from representatives of members and a nonprofit partner in the network including James Bidwell, Co-Founder of Re_Set Advisors, Georgia Phillips, Global Partnerships Lead, Pukka Herbs, Bill LIao , Co-Founder & Chairman of the Board, WeForest and Alex Beasley, UK & Ireland Lead, Patagonia. After this series pivoted to virtual in the wake of the global pandemic, an event on April 21st featured Emily Penn, Co-Founder and Director of 1% for the Planet nonprofit partner Exxpedition introduced and welcomed by members James Bidwell of Re_Set Advisory and Chris Ramsey of Pelican Founders. Exxpedition is women run organization that seeks to educate people about the threat that micro-plastics and toxins pose to our oceans by leading female only voyages across the globe. The latest in this series “Sustainable Travel & Tourism 2020 and Beyond” featured 1% for the Planet board member and Chief Solutions Officer at Sojern, Kurt Weinsheimer and Executive Director of Adventure Travel Conservation Fund, Soraya Shattuck and included a panel discussion followed by a Q&A session discussing the future of sustainable tourism and travel.
