TIDAL New York’s mission can pretty much be summed up in one word: comfort. The company is focused on making flip flops which aren’t just comfortable, but also are produced in an environmentally conscious way. The company has made huge steps towards a more renewable future. In December of 2019, the design for the shoes sole was made to include 13.11% renewable material. Tidals also last longer because they are committed to creating a durable, long lasting product which challenges the idea that flip flops are disposable. They are also striving for a recycling program in 2020, working to find a safe way to dispose of the flip flops when they do finally wear out. Besides the shoe itself, the factory is powered entirely by wind energy and then some, returning excess renewable energy that is produced to the grid. The company has been a 1% for the Planet member since 2017, working with Surfrider to protect the world’s oceans and beaches. They work to protect their “playground” which so many people enjoy and that means so much, through grassroots events and activism around the world!
