Jackson Hole Becomes a Leader in Sustainability

The Riverwind Foundation led Jackson Hole in becoming the first EarthCheck Sustainable Destination certified in North America. The EarthCheck Sustainable Destinations program is a global network of destinations that are working toward sustainably by tackling issues like waste reduction, social justice, and resource management.

A Major Milestone with a Global Impact

This milestone was reached after 5 years of coordinated, collaborative projects among community public and private stakeholders to strengthen the sustainability plans, policies, and practices of Teton County, Wyoming.

The collective impact of these projects include:

  • Training and assisting over 300 businesses in sustainability planning and practices
  • Inventorying the sustainability activities of over 120 local stakeholders
  • Creating or enhancing 53 local green collar jobs and educating over 250 students
  • Doubling the participants in our local sustainability qualification program to over 200
  • Creating the Business Emerald Sustainability Tier (BEST) Program
  • Creating & distributing the Jackson Hole Sustainability Code of Conduct to over 100,000 visitors
