To date, Klean Kanteen has donated $3.1 million in unrestricted funds to nonprofits whose work overlaps with their four pillars (Plastic Pollution, Safe Consumer Products, Land and Water Conservation, and Environmental Stewardship). Unrestricted funding allows nonprofits to use the money as they see fit within their mission.
To tackle plastic pollution, Klean Kanteen partners with 5 Gyres to support their more than 1,100 ambassadors of all ages in 46 states and 67 countries taking action to have #plasticfree communities. The partnership has also supported 19 plastic pollution research expeditions in all 5 Subtropical Gyres, and in publishing the first peer-reviewed Global Estimate of Marine Plastic Pollution. 5 Gyres has also been successful in informing 10 policy recommendations to the city of San Francisco and contributing to a law banning the use of microbeads in personal care products.
