Goodbye Sandfly, a 1% for the Planet business member, and OceansWatch, a nonprofit member, are working together to conserve coastal areas and empower coastal communities. This six-year partnership is making change by working directly with local communities to conserve natural areas and help adapt to environmental changes. OceansWatch works with sailors, scientists, and the public to empower as many people as possible toward a common goal and make their mission a reality.
The nonprofit is based in New Zealand, and works globally to promote education, conservation, and climate action. OceansWatch focuses on marine conservation, bringing educational opportunities to areas in need, and empowering local people to start businesses that can be sustained long-term. OceansWatch has also put together toolkits on how locals can be engaged in marine monitoring in their own communities, which have been presented at climate change conferences to inspire others. This partnership has allowed for positive change at a local level, which will have a global impact.
