Bread Alone Bakery is Baked by the Sun

1% for the Planet member, Bread Alone bakery has renewed their commitment to the planet by installing a 196 KW solar array on the roof of their headquarters in the Catskills. They have signed onto the 100% Committed Campaign created by the Climate Reality Project which is a pledge to source 100% of their energy from renewable sources by 2030. With their new solar array that supplies 30% of their energy needs, they are well on their way to achieving that goal by 2030.

In addition to these efforts, they also redirect their waste by donating leftover bread to soup kitchens, composting on site, and by partnering with Toast Ale USA which reclaims surplus bread and turns it into delicious beer. Bread Alone is also officially a Climate Neutral Certified company, having purchased enough carbon credits to offset their 2019 carbon emissions footprint from producing and delivering breads. They will also be transitioning to compostable packaging and will be releasing their first compostable bread bag this summer.
